How Weather Affects Your Game
Wind
- Headwind: Club up (one club per 10 km/h of headwind)
- Tailwind: Club down and ball rolls further after landing
- Crosswind: Aim into the wind and let it bring the ball back
- Gusty conditions: Hit lower, punch shots under the wind
Rain
- Use rain gloves (they grip better when wet than normal gloves)
- Keep towels in a dry pocket of your bag
- Wet greens are slower — hit putts firmer
- Waterproof jacket should allow full swing motion
Cold Weather
- Ball compresses less = flies shorter (up to 10% less distance)
- Dress in layers; remove as you warm up
- Hand warmers in your pockets between shots
- Use lower compression balls in cold
Hot Weather
- Stay hydrated (drink every 3 holes minimum)
- Wear a wide-brimmed hat and SPF 50+
- Book early morning or late afternoon tee times
- Ball flies slightly further in hot, low-density air
Lightning Safety
Golf is one of the most dangerous sports for lightning. When you hear thunder or see lightning:
- Stop playing immediately
- Do not shelter under lone trees
- Move to the clubhouse or a car
- Wait 30 minutes after the last thunder
